music production toolkit, which is cheaper online or dealer?
hey guys, i am about to purchase my music production toolkit, and i was just wondering if it would be better(cheaper) to buy it online or through a dealer? here in new zealand its NZ$1000 (NZ$999 to be exact)from the dealer,at the digi store, the price is US$495 which is NZ$712 the price difference is quite big...am not sure if what kind of taxes apply, but i've bought some stuff from the digistore and my bank just charged me 1.5% (of the amount being converted) conversion fee and digi had it delivered to me at my doorstep...what's the advantage of buying the music production toolkit from a dealer anyway if there's any? coz as u can see the price difference is quite big...
anyweyz just need some advice, cheers

Re: music production toolkit, which is cheaper online or dealer?
In the States things are much the same. Buying online can often be MUCH cheaper.
But.. with major retailers(Guitar Center.) they will often charge sales tax if there is a retail store in your area. Some states will charge a sales tax on your online purchase regardless. Mine does not.(Give it time though.. because all politicians have thier hand in the till.) I dont know the particulars of New Zealand but... a penny saved is a penny earned! Shipping as always is a concern when its International. Best of luck. |

yeah shipping is the biggest thing that concerns me, it would suck to spend money and not get the merchandise. and when that happens there's really nothing i can do at this end... oh well here goes nothing... (fingers crossed)

Re: music production toolkit, which is cheaper online or dea
is the music production tool a downloadable file or is it too big?...coz pro tools 7.3 is downloadable i assume that a toolkit shouldn't be as big as the program itself...
anyweyz any thoughts?

The toolkit comes with 7 physical disks full of stuff; the program extension, plugins, reverb impulses, and a few other things. It is not download-able.

I bought my MPT from ALTO Music. altomusic.com I imagine they will ship worldwide. The price was significantly cheaper than the digistore. Email them for a price. [email protected]

Can't you see the full price when checking out of the Digistore?
Edit: oops... I mean just BEFORE you check out |

Re: music production toolkit, which is cheaper online or dealer?
i just did a recent(and expensive but fun) upgrade to my home recording setup which included switching to m-powered pro tools. living just that bit west of ya, i noticed many things i was looking at purchasing were cheaper overseas even taking into account import tax and postage. in the end i paid a bit more, went down and saw the local shop rep who has served me well with everything i bought(recently and in the past), sat with us days later and showed us tricks with pro tools in store and generally was just very helpful. i don't think it matters where you are in the world the rapport you develop with ya local muso trumps. so i say local dealer. just my two cents

There's always the security of local dealers to take into account as well. If something goes wrong you can just walk down there and throw it up on the counter.
