Default External drive - 924 or 934 chipset?

Looking to upgrade my external drive from Lacie 100G to OWC 1TB. Noticed that the newer ones have the 934 Oxford. Is this a newer version of the 924 Oxford and is it compatible with PT?

Thnx for your responses!

Mac Pro 16 G RAM, 2.8GHz, 8 core
10.5.8 OSX
PT 8.0.1

AT this point, it looks like all the Oxford chips are okay.

If you have a Mac Pro, why the external drive?

Make sure you have current backups.

For sure, I would use internal SATA drives first. I pretty much only work on internal drives(better performance) and use externals for moving sessions between studios.

Thnx - I just upgraded from MacBook Pro to Mac Pro and am unaware I can now use the internals instead of external HD's. Being new at this, I have been careful to always store my audio off of my computer and onto externals. Not neccesary anymore??

Pop the side panel off the Mac Pro and you will find 4 aluminum brackets(the front one has the system drive). You can install 3 more SATA drives in those extra caddies. Search youtube for "mac pro drive replacement" or similar and you will see videos on how easy it is.

Thnx Albee for the help! Looks like I have 3 drives installed - 1 - 320G, 1-TB, 1-TB - total 2.32TB and I am just using the 320 as SYstem drive and 1TB for backup. Seems like I have a spare TB drive to store sessions. Need to figure out how to redirect PT to read the internal instead of the external Lacie.

Thnx again!!

IF you want to move current sessions to that drive, open the session and, from the File menu, choose 'Save Copy In', then select that drive. Make sure to check the 'copy all audio files' option in the window before saving.

If you want to create a new sesion on that drive, just select the drive in the New Session window.
