Default firewire drive, locating oxford chipset?

hi,

i am a protools le user on an intel core 2 duo imac with os 10.4.8, running ptle 7.3.1 through an original mbox...

i have two western digital mybook premium (firewire/usb2) external drives that work perfect so far with protools, when i bought them it was indicated that they came with the oxford 912/922 chipset.

i just got off the phone with the western digital tech supt because i couldn't find that info anymore and she told me it's because they don't exclusively use the oxford chipsets anymore, they use the oxford on some and on others they use an initio chipset, which is supposedly oxford qualified just generic. so that makes me look in other directions unless someone from digi can tell me otherwise...

the problem is that i am having considerable difficulty locating a hard drive enclosure (firewire) that uses the oxford chipset. does anyone have a drive enclosure that has oxford chipset and what make/model is it?

what works for you?

There are no others currently under review and anything other than Oxford chips are likely to not work. It's best to stick to what we KNOW works and avoid anything else...

I am now using Avastor drives.....a little pricey but work great....and they have a great reputation (as far as I know!?!?). They all come with the oxford chipsets and spec'd to work with Pro Tools - www.avastor.com
