Default Digi002 Rack Firewire Problem

So, first off, I tried *everything* in this thread: http://duc.digidesign.com/showflat.p...&Number=313423

I've also opened up open firmware and did reset-nvram and reset-all, i've also started a number of times with command+option+p+r

There, now with that out of the way, here's what's going on. Two days ago, all of a sudden my Digi002 rack couldn't hold a link with my host machine (a dual g5 PPC mac with 4gigs RAM, running OS X 10.4.11) it was working splendidly for *years* without a single glitch, now it just won't hold a link.

i have a firewire drive (lacie) that was daisy-chained with the digi002, i unplugged it, and put it straight into one of the two firewire ports (one in the front one in back) and the drive worked in both, on its own (plugged directly into the mac)

last night, after fiddling with the cable, from the digi002 it managed to hold a link for about 5 minutes, but then nothing, it just dropped, the link light went off and pro tools (naturally choked)

i haven't tried switching cables, but would a firewire cable just go bad like this, that quickly? i can hear the digi002 "click" like its trying to connect, but after 30 or so seconds it just quits and sits there.

Default Re: Digi002 Rack Firewire Problem

It could very likely be the dreaded Power Harness issue. The multiple 'clicking' and inability to connect are classic symptoms. It's actually discussed on the page you linked to, near the very bottom of the page.

You need to call Digi support, tell them you think your power harness has failed and once they confirm they'll send out a new harness for you to swap out.
