Default Good magazine or other source of info

I have spent a decent amount of time in one studio or another as a musician, and I have collaborated on several projects as a band where we did all of our own recording, mixing, production (3rd party mastering), etc. However, now that I am getting my own system set up at home (Digi 002 on order!), I could probably benefit from some additional insight into the whole PC-based recording thing.

So far, DUC has been a godsend, and I am sure that I will be relying on all of your posts in the future. But I was also interested in hearing what you folks think are useful publications or other sources of info. For instance, I was considering getting a subscription to Electronic Musician. Our guitar player always got that, and it seemed to have some very helpful articles.

All thoughts/opinions appreciated.

Gingley.

Future Music is a great magazine. Very informative but also pricey. An issure normally costs $12.00 at guitar center but comes with a CD that ususally contains samples. The reviews are honest unlike some magazines from the US that seem to lavish praise on every new toy.

I love America, but when it comes to
recording and gear magazines, sorry,
I'd rather read what the Britts have to say.

FutureMusic, ComputerMusic, SoundOnSound=the best magazines. Pricey, but well worth it.

Hello,
I've got a subscription to Electronic Musician. I like it very much.

I especially like their articles in Square One which describe practical beginner techniques for people like me.

They also have a nice searchable article base online.

Thanks for all the responses. I just subscribed to Tape Op. How do they manange to keep it free? From what I could tell, they had well thought out articles from highly experienced people. What a great resource.

The other posts were all good, too. There are a LOT of forums out there, aren't there!

Maybe I'll wait until I get an issue or two of Tape Op before I decide to subscribe to anything else. Then again, since it's free, I could still justify another mag to the spouse...

I'll toss one more (free) website into the mix (which pulls a lot, if not all their info, from Future Music, I believe).

www.intermusic.com

The tutorials have been extremely helpful at times. I'll also toss in my votes for Electronic Musician and Sound on Sound (best magazine for reviews, in my opinion).

Yeah, I dissed Mix mag too - too high endy
EM - too electronic for the likes of me, but i still read it to keep uptodate
but I really like EQ mag - I'm not so hot on the reviews, but it shows cool techniques and gives a lot of cool articles I dont really see in other mags. Plus they have good writers and columnists.

Guitar world - crap
Guitar Player - ok
Guitar One - eh.. so and so
Bass player - good
Recording Musician - portastudio, etc.
Sound on Sound - dont subscibe, but my friend does, and it kicks ass!
