Default Which OS is best for PT12?

Hey guys!

I'm about to jump to PT12 and my 2010 Mac Pro is on 10.8. Should I stay on 10.8, or move up to Yosemite, or what? Any consensus here?

Thanks!

Oooh PLEASE stay on 10.8.5 as you are one of the lucky ones who doesn't have to update the OS so stay as long as you possibly can We have stayed on the Macbooks we have but the nMP we had no choice, hence a lot of issues.

But on our trusty Macbooks running ML we have extremely stable PT12HD systems.

Thanks! I love a clear, strong opinion!

Yes 10.8.5 is as stable as it currently can be, but please buy another external drive and install a current system on it as often as they become available. That way you know when you can move on to fresh platform

I'm still on PTHD 10.3.10, was running OSX 10.8.5 for a long time. I finally took the plunge & upgraded to 10.9.5. Everything seems to be operating smoothly. There were a couple plugins that didn't work initially, but reinstalling them seemed to fix the problem. Of course I tested the upgrade on a backup drive first before committing my main drive. Better safe than sorry......

Well you won't gain anything by going to Maverick and ML is still reigning Champ!!

So as I suggested, stay on Mountain Lion 10.8.5 until you "need" to update and hopefully by then ElCap is solid and works just as well as ML

I have had very good luck with ProTools 12 and Yosemite. I had a horrible time with Mavericks and never had a reliable set up with it. I agree mountain lion is pretty good as well.

Mavericks wasn't horrible for me, but I'd say Mountain Lion and Yosemite were lot more stable.

ElCap isn't horrible either but I still have Yosemite installed for live gigs

The problem is getting yosemite now that it is not available.......

So as someone sugessted download the installer so it will be available in your account....but you do not have to run the installer.....just delete it...or back it up.

Then in a year or two you can go an download the installer when you are ready....
