Arrow Expert advice on jumping to HD from LE

Ok - Running PTLE8 and wanna know about making the jump to HD..... It looks like you can get HD8 systems with a PCI card pretty cheap (about 1k)

This is i guess the big question what do i gain by going HD????

I have heard sound quality is better, is this true?

Will I still be able to run and or record with my 003 interface? Will 8 make me run an HD interface only? It seems PTHD9 will probably be ok with the 003.

It seems that i will have to do some shopping to find a motherboard that will host the PCI (natively) rather than PCI via PCIe ? Is this right info.....

Currently running a home built ASUS M4A79T with AMD Phenon x4 CPU.

I doubt you will get HD8 for a grand, but in any case, HD gets you more inputs at a time(with the proper hardware). I believe its 64 channels per card. Processing power for TDM plugins(no load on the cpu). Much lower latency(great for feeding headphone mixes to musicians). The old 003 will be useless in the same room as the HD cards, but if you have HD version 9 or 10 of Pro Tools, in which case the 003 could be used when you are not in your studio with all the HD hardware(like if you take a laptop and the 003 to do a location recording). I will defer to those that know best, but you could probably install the PCI cards in a Magma chassis and connect that to your computer thru a single PCI or PCIe card. Never heard of anybody regretting upgrading the HD from LE

I went from LE to HD about a year ago and I don't regret it one single bit, I done lots of shopping around for all the parts and hardware. I now have a system that is very stable with nearly zero latency. I'm in the process of recording a band who I recorded when I had my LE system and we get things done so much quicker than we did before. I don't have to do silly work around things to avoid latency, sound quality is way better. I would highly recommend going for this check my sig for a list of PC parts that are working great for me.

Good Luck buddy

So what is the difference b/t the core card and the accel card?
So it's 64 channels of I/o per card doesn't matter what sampling rate ur running right. So I could be running at least 96k sampling rates with 64 channels of I/O per card ? Right
I would only need another card if I were running sessions with more than 64 simultaneous in's / outs - ???

The core card is the required first card for the system, and requires a qualfied interface to make a working Pro Tools HD system. Accel cards add processing power and the capability to add more i/o to the core system.
