Default PTLE-davec, new Mini vs iBook, system bus speeds

ok, since the new releases of ibook and mini,
my friend is looking to get a mac (switcher)
for music recording and web surfing..

he wants a laptop, but i want to insure he's not
getting something that will konk out on him later on..
i want him to have that good mac warm fuzzy in his
heart his first time through...

now speaking of bus speeds...(and their effect on
performance...i.e. for PTLE and Garageband)

Im pushing him to get at least a 1.4ghz machine
either 1.4 mini, 1.42 ibook or a 1.5 power book
but i am curious to know if you all know how
much of an effect system bus speed has on performance.

Mini has 167 system bus
iBook has 147 system bus
Powerbook has 167 system bus

Ive seen DUC (protools le) davec postings of iBook
have 13 tracks and the mini having 20 tracks.. but
the processor speeds/ram were different...

1) Given the same processor speed (and same RAM amount)
how much does system bus effect PTLE performance?

My discussion with him partially deals with purchase price and
his desire to get a ibook laptop.
(in my mind the best bang for his buck is the mini, but maybe im making
too big a deal of system bus speed)?? Powerbook is a possibility but
it hurts his pocketbook a lot... he will be eligible for a student discount.

tia for your comments
Edgar

Default Re: PTLE-davec, new Mini vs iBook, system bus speeds

my 12" 1,5GHz with 1,25Gb RAM (512MB is enough for this test) testing with the internal drive (5400 RPM)... on the DAVEC Test gives 26 tracks with TIGER (10.4.2) and PTLE6.9.2cs2 , and i'm sure with an external firewire drive (7200Rpm) it will be higher track count
