Atmos: Single bed or multiple beds?
I'm new to Atmos but have ben mixing 5.1 for about 20 years. For TV/Post would you setup beds for DX, FX, MX or just a single bed and feed everything bed related to it?

Multiple. It’s the best way to be able to make your re-renders for 5.1 and stereo if/when needed for deliverables.

Related Question:
Are folks setting up 1) a PRINTMASTER bed which recieves a sum of the stem beds, or 2) ONLY the stem beds, generating the printmaster as part of a rendering process? -jeremiah |

Re: Atmos: Single bed or multiple beds?
No real reason to setup a Printmaster Bed. The Atmos mix is comprised of the DX, MX, FX Beds and associated Objects depending on your group setups.
If you need to make a 5.1 and Stereo Re-Render of the full mix then you choose those groups for your Re-Render. Think of it the same as you would setup a PT Session. You wouldn't necessarily have a PM Sub and also DX, MX, FX subs. You'd have each of the separate subs feeding the PM print track. With the Renderer there's no need for a PM "print track". The whole .atmos file and ADM file is the PM. If you don't need the separate stems for deliveries then there's no need to create separate food groups, in which case you could just have 1 PM bed and groups and be done with it. Obviously, who you deliver to and specs you need to follow matter so take that into consideration as well. |

Re: Atmos: Single bed or multiple beds?
What its2loud said. If you don't need the separate stems you can go with 1 bed but by making multiple stem beds you can deliver that 1 file and rerenders of every width and most types can be made from down the line.

Re: Atmos: Single bed or multiple beds?
The whole point of Atmos is that there’s no print master, as the mix is dynamically adjusted depending on the playback situation. And you need dx fx and mx beds to fulfill delivery requirements pretty much anywhere, so that’s what you have to make.
