Default Updated to 8.0.4cs2, system freezes updating Avid audio drivers

I've just built a new PC using Win 7 64 bit (and 002 Rack). Bought the Pro Tools LE 8 upgrade, and installed it fresh on this new PC. Ran the 8.0.4 update, and at this stage the system worked fine.

Heard about the 8.0.4cs2 update yesterday, so I downloaded and ran it, following the instructions to the letter. The 8.0.4cs2 update ran fine. I rebooted, then ran the Avid audio drivers update. The driver update froze after a couple of minutes. I let it run for about 10 minutes, but to no avail. I rebooted, checked Control Panel\Programs, and there was an Avid audio drivers x64 entry in the list. Given that the driver update didnt complete in the normal manner I decided to uninstall the Avid audio driver then re-attempt the driver update.

Same result: the thing froze ("installing Avid audio driver" or similar). I ended the task and checked Control Panel\Programs again, and the Avid audio drivers x64 was in the list. I launched Pro Tools and was able to play back a session.

Is there any way I can tell if the audio driver install completed successfully?

Thanks.

For what it's worth, I recently installed 8.0.4cs2 on a fresh install of W7 x64 as well. The drivers took a very long time to install, to the point where I thought the computer had indeed frozen. Maybe it's just taking forever?

In Programs and Features I have an entry "Avid Audio Drivers (x64), version 8.0.4.245. Given that the audio drivers install hung I'm not confident that the driver has installed correctly.

What should I be looking for in Device Manager? I've been through the devices and cant see anything obvious.

Thanks.

BigSnack, how long did it take? I waited around 10 - 15 mins or so, and when I checked the processes through task manager there was no activity. That's when I pulled the plug. The PC has an i5 760, 8 gb RAM, Crucial SSD. Everything else runs so fast it's staggering.

well go to device manager, sound, video and game controllers.

locate your interface, right click and choose properties and click the driver tab.

or since you're on W7, you could go to the start menu, click Devices and Printer, Right Click your interface, Properties, Hardware Tab. Properties, Driver tab.

Thats the same driver version i have in Programs and features, 8.0.4.245
and device manager shows driver 8.0.4.351 made on 6/22/2010.

That is for my 003R.

In Device Manager the following driver info is shown against the Digi 002 Rack: 8.0.4.354, dated 30 August 2010.

Just to repeat: under Programs and Features I get Avid Audio Drivers (x64) 8.0.4.245.

I dont have an 002, but from what others have said, that looks right for the 002R. sure a fellow 002'er will confirm.

FWIW, my driver update took waaaaaaaay longer than I ever would have expected. I actually thought it was frozen(afetr a good 5 minutes) so I hit cancel and was presented with a popup regarding a stage of progress, followed by the popup asking if I really wanted to cancel the install. Seeing the progress popup gave me the "confidence" to let the install finish, so I canceled the cancel(an oxymoron for certain) and it finally finished(but took a good 10 minutes or more).
