Default Condenser Mike Question

I've been solely using a Shure SM-57 with my Digi's for years and finally sprang for an AKG condenser mike. I can't tell whether or not the new mike is defective due to my ignorance.

Pressing in the 48v button seems to make no difference in how the mike operates. Should it? I get a signal to my Digi 003 either way.

What is the model number? You sure (no pun intended) that it's a condenser?

It's an AKG Perception 100 mike. It's definitely a condenser mike.

Phantom power requires that all 3 pins are connected in the mic cable, while a dynamic mic may work fine with pin 1 broken or cut at one end, so try another cable. ALso, I trust you are using XLR to XLR cable and not a quarter inch plug into the 003(phantom power does not show up on the quarter inch jack). Just in case you didn't know(we get lots of newbies here so no offense is intended) there is a switch for phantom to inputs 1,2 AND a switch for inputs 3,4.l

Yes, phantom power does make a difference how the microphone operates. Without phantom power you should not be seeing signal.

Is the microphone functioning properly sound wise? Good level without distortion?

If the answer is yes to both those questions, then excluding operator error, it would appear that your 003's phantom power switch/s are broken and always on. Have the unit checked out.
