Default Pro Tools MIDI Controller problem?

Hello everyone,
I recently bought a M Audio Midisport UNO MIDI interface to connect my old Yamaha keyboard to my PC. I downloaded the latest driver for the UNO and went through the process of setting up the controller on Pro Tools and when I go to play or record something on a MIDI or Virtual Instrument track I get nothing. The notes don't register and there isn't any sound. When I press a few notes hard I get a tiny blip that barely registers, but again there is no sound (at least that I can hear).

The keyboard I'm using is a Yamaha PSR 550, my parents bought for me in 2003. It has MIDI in and out so there really shouldn't be a problem, right? The keyboard is set to Master Keyboard and channel out is set to 1. I looked for a driver for the keyboard but the only one I found was for a TO HOST port that uses a different kind of cable.

My UNO's MIDI Input light is on the USB light slowly flashes and the output is off, except when I play notes with the output set to my UNO in pro tools.
I also have MIDI Thru checked so that's not the problem either. I've also tried working with my keyboard through Finale without success.

Help this is driving me nuts!

Is the DIN MIDI cable routing Yamaha PSR 550 MIDI Out --> UNO MIDI In and UNO MIDI Out --> Yamaha PSR 550 MIDI In?

Open Windows Device Manager and check that the UNO device is correctly listed with no yellow exclamation marks.

Open Pro Tools Input devices is the UNO listed?

Yep the cables are in correctly I tried switching them around and it didn't make a difference and the IN light on the UNO went out so I assume I had it right. There wasn't a yellow exclamation point near the device. And the UNO is listed and checked in the input devices.

More details might help. For instance, with XP, my UNO worked great, but with Windows 7, nothing would make it work Went with a MOTU Fastlane USB(2x2) and that works a treat on Windows 7

Thanks for the info, I hope I don't have to buy something different BTW I'm running Windows 7 64 bit on a computer I built (6.00 GB Ram, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 2.6 GH, 560 Gb Hard Drive 7200 RPM. Pro Tools 8 M - Powered with the latest update (I think, probably ought to check that...)

So I just ran MIDIOX with my keyboard and I'm getting some really strange results. 1st off I actually do get something to register when I press a bunch of notes at once. However they are not registering as pitches. It's registering as mostly pitch bends and instrument changes

So I tried tinkering with my keyboards output mode to no avail. I still think there is something wrong with my keyboard. I don't really think it's my UNO (?)

I would replace the MIDI Interface before I would replace the keyboard.

Haha yeah I just found out that my UNO is faulty. It's in the range of serial numbers that had defects pertaining to input. Well looks like it's time to upgrade.
