Default I would like some advice from Post Prod operators

Hi all

I apologise for the essay but hope you all can take the time to help me it is much appreciated. I'm after some advice from Post Production industry pro's mainly (all is welcome)about getting in on the ground(ish) floor. I work for a pay TV operation and have done for the last 3 years. I work in Presentation and am quite experienced in TV in general. I have extensive Production experience and as I said before, I'm in a senior position in Presentation and have worked in Pres for around 7 years. All up I have over 10 years experience in TV.

I have been using Pro-Tools Digi002 mainly for music in my home studio for the last 2 years. The company I work for has just upgraded all its facilities to an unprecedented level within the Muli-Channel environment of which I have been one of the main testers for getting this facility running and On-Air.

My main reason for writing this is the Audio suites too have been upgraded. Our company has purchased three of the D-Control|16 POST packs for these new suites. They're currently being installed and are beautiful consoles.

I've been wanting to get into Audio Post for some time now which is part of my reason for getting PTLE but I also really enjoy my current job. From your point of view, what is a good approach? I don't want to come on too strong spouting PT knowledge and get shot down by someone who knows way more than I.

Despite having PTLE I can work the system but my in depth knowledge is a bit lacking. Due to a lack of $$$ I haven't been able to do any Pro Tools courses.

My line of thinking is like this...Approach to do some Audio Post assistant work on my days off this will allow me access to session files which I can work on at home to hone my skills. Moving forward...In exchange the company may be willing to split the cost of the Pro Tools education fee's. At the end of it all and after a reasonable amount of time if a position is available I could be considered as a candidate.

What do you think...I've got to learn somehow and am motivated, I have a good history with the company. Its a win win really in my eyes.

All feedback welcomed.
