Default Sampler or Something else?

Hello,

I was wondering if someone knew of a inexpensive software to do what I’m looking for here. I tried Structure Free but it could not do it and I don’t think that Structure LE will work either.

I don’t want to shell out $400 for something I’m only going to use once or twice.

I have recorded a bunch of samples of some Greek percussion instruments that I want to play back. I have set up each instrument for a MPC1000 playback using up to 28 velocity layers. So all I want to emulate the MPC1000 within protools.

Just a simple this note and this velocity plays X sample.

Not LFO, filters, reverb, layering etc…just simple one shot playback with each midi note.

Anything other than the expensive samplers do anything like this? I'm using PT 7.4.

You probably received a copy of Ableton live Lite with your ProTools system, you can set this up there. You simply drag each sound file into a 'cell' in Live and use Ableton's MIDI learn feature to assign MIDI note information to each cell.

You then 'ReWire' Ableton Live into proTools and if you set this up correctly *voilá* you should be able to perform this function : )

Ableton Lite is part of the Ignition Pack that normally comes with Digi hardware.

As far as I know, Ignition pack was discontinued once PT8 came out. There's no Ableton, no Reason, etc. It's not listed currently with the software description.

I guess the idea being that version 8 now comes with enough virtual instruments and plugins on its own.

Lots of us haven't noticed this who have upgraded from older systems.
