Default Best Mac to go with 003R?

OK, so I'm looking to upgrade my home setup from a lowly Digi 001/G4 to a new 003R and Mac Pro.

In a real world environment from real users, what is your opinion on the best Mac Pro to go with, that will run LE best without a lot of excess "wasted" horsepower?

What is 'wasted'? If you were to get the 32 GB Ram 3.2 Ghz 8 core Mac Pro, would you really be wasting all that horsepower? Are you thinking what's good for today, or what's good for today AND tomorrow and say...5 years from now?

My advice: Get what you can afford. Upgrade the processor first. And if you can't get more than a basic model Mac Pro (which is still incredible), you can always upgrade stuff like RAM, and internal and external (FW) HDs later.

That's my 2 Hz.

GunnyT, how much RAM do you have in your MacPro?? I read that you need at least 2 Gigs of RAM per processor to take full advantage of the 8 cores, but not sure of the validity of that statement.

Thanks for ANY insight.

I have 8 GB of RAM (see my signature).

I'm unsure of the validity of what you read. It doesn't sound right to me. I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.
