Default Suggested Computers seem... out of date?

The Asus TB card works fine as far as when I have used it with my board and a sonnet + HDX and Octo PCIe card.

I decided on the X99 because skylake had some reported issues and they didn't have a six core Xeon processor. Looking at Intel's road map and just the gut feel for their change in tick tock strategy I figure a skylake configuration I would want is still 1-2 years out plus to have the bugs worked out.

Makes sense. I guess I will check out these 5830x and x99s then.

Out of curiosity, why did you opt for that setup as opposed to installing the HDX and UAD cards into the case? Portability?

to run either with my MBP or PC. However, I decided just to leave my Apollo units on my MBP. I had it running for about 2 weeks maybe.

Edit. And being curious....I just wanted to see if it could and would work.

Save your money bro. I have the exact same board as you have, but you have way more processing power and RAM than I do. I have had no problems with PT 12 since I sorted things out a couple of months ago.

i can't speak for pc, cause i'm on mac, but a year ago i bought a 15" mbp i7 quad core with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD, and this machine is working perfectly for me
The internal SSD is so fast, i can record and mix huge sessions with LOTS of Plug ins on this internal drive without any problems. i use Waves, Slate, Massey, UAD (ok this is on an external DSP), etc... Also the 16 GB RAM is enough for me. It depends what you want to do with it. Using tons of VIs could maybe be a problem, but i don't do this too much. So for a laptop, i would go for a maxed out MBP

[QUOTE=chrismeraz;2353414]

Don't worry about "officially supported system." It's a waste of time for everyone. All modern computers will work fine as long as you have:
- Two hard drives
- A fast processor (depends on your needs)
- Enough RAM (depends on your needs)
- An approved firewire/PCI card (or whatever is needed for your interface)
- I definitely recommend disabling wireless network adapters.QUOTE

Good advice, chrismeraz.

I got my iMac from macofalltrades.com as a refurb.
Came completely factory wiped, none of the extraneous programs/apps that come with one purchased retail.

I communicated with them, and my rep at Sweetwater as I purchased Pro Tools 11 right around the same time. Both folks were able to help me assure that my purchases would be compatible with one another. Then I maxed out the RAM to 32gb. Works flawlessly for me.

My particular box was a blem, had a tiny ding near the power switch on the back, which I wasn't fussy about since the back faces the window curtain.

No issues whatsoever in the 14 months since I've had both.

I have a 2010 Mac Pro. I'm thinking about throwing in a USB 3 card and my ssd and going back to it.

The PC has been interesting.
