Is there any indication as to what is different with this new (i) version of the PE6R4? Someone else on here mentioned they were using a quieter power supply in the more recent versions so I'm wondering if that might be it.

Yes, I have the "I" version and it is very quiet. Great new chassis.
Big improvement

This freaked me out when I first fired up the Quad Core I just bought and saw 8 cores available in the Audio Engine.

I guess 7 or 5 is a good selection for a Nehalem Quad Core?

I rock 7 of 8. Seems to work great. What doesn't work great is putting more than 8 GB of RAM into it. Shipped with 6GB (3x2Gb) and I tried to put a 4GB stick in (OWC certified) - but the mac won't boot. Flashing power light. Yank the stick and all is good. So for another $700 I get the other 8 virtual cores AND the ability to jump to 32 GB? Does that seem weird to anybody else? 8 and 32? I was hoping for 16 and 32, no?

I was told by our vendor that with the new MP's memory has to be added in multiples of 3. That is why it came with 6GB or RAM not 4.
