Avid asio: no standalone audio anymore after updating Kontakt 5.5 to 5.6

Strange, after updating my NI Kontakt from 5.5. to 5.6 the avid asio driver stopped working in the Kontakt standalone version. As AAX it still works fine in both my pts HD's (32bit/64bit).

All the other standalones from NI Komplete 10 still work/give sound, so it could be a NI/Kontakt thing. On the other hand Kontakt 5.6 still gives output/sound via my build-in PC-soundcard (a standard Realtek). So I think it's something with the avid asio driver.

Anyone got a clue?

Could be NI's issue, but there is also a known issue with most third party interfaces: do not use your Pro Tools interface for Windows sounds/audio.

Kontakt Standalone worked for years with asio avid driver. I don't understand your reply.

Which driver? B/c historically there are 2 different drivers your referring to....1 is ASIO4ALL and the other is theAvid branded audio driver....which as I understand it is not ASIO.....but a windows driver for the interface you have

Its very common for Windows systems that using the interface as the Windows default playback device causes problems, especially with sample rate settings. It has been long-recommended for Windows users to set Windows Sound Properties to use the onboard sound card as the default playback device. There are many ways to get playback outside of Pro Tools. when I had 002/003, I fed the soundcard output to the ALT inputs on the 002/003. Now I run the optical SPDIF from my computer to an open input on my monitor/source selector(Presonus Central station) and it works dandy An alternative would also be to simply connect a set of computer speakers to hear sound outside of Pro Tools.

ASIO4ALL can't be used in my Pts HD / Lynx Aurora setup. I used the Avid Asio driver fine for ages. Till the last Kontakt 5.6 update. And Avid calls this driver Asio. ;-)

In my system everything is settled fine. Also your good advices are set up as you wrote here (windows audio via aux/console into protools).

But the inboard soundcard quality is terrible in comparison with the Lynx I use. In combination with the Avid asio driver of my pts 12 HD when playing Kontakt 5 standalone. Therefor my question here.

I can't speak with 100% authority, b/c I am on a mac but I was aware of one situation that was resolved by reverting the HD driver to the prior version. So rolling back 12.6 to 12.5 ect.

On mac it doesn't work either if it's any consolation (for about 2.5yrs now)

If you have an HD driver that should be all you need....it's also possible that something got corrupted in the kontak update.....did they respond to the question?

Now I get it. I agree with you on the sound quality of the onboard analog out(mine was also poor). Once I switched to the optical SPDIF out, quality was right on par(but I understand this may not be an option for you)
