Default BurnIT output massive DB drop to Tape help

Heres a pic of the BurnIT unit.

im going out of my boards auxilary into the BurnIT (cd recorder) which records a crystal clear signal to my cd but..im also recording to tape, i go out of the BurnIT's output (RCA) into the tape recorders input (RCA)

when i play back my tape the sound has something like a 40 decibal drop. what was a clear signal ( 0 ) on my cd is now -30-40 on my tape. can anyone explain this? what should i do?

get a splitter pre-burnIT unit? that would be messy considering its output XLR converted to RCA (L/R) to BurnIT

pre-conversion would be a XLR to double XLR to 2 RCA's or XLR to 2 RCA to 4 RCA. lots of conversion, wouldnt that degrade my signal?
