Default Idea about iPad and Pro Tools.....

Ok so I was wondering if we could take the new iPad and have it mirror our Mix window, and then use it as a controller surface for writing fader automation....

Is this in the works maybe?

Just my thoughts.

These should all work on an ipad:

Check out "Far Out Labs ProRemote, Pro Transport" on that page.

I'd be more interested in being able to edit on an Ipad. But it won't happen.

you can do this with laptops using screen sharing feature built into the mac. i wonder if iPad will be able to use screen sharing...

There are SEVERAL screen sharing apps for the iPhone/iPod Touch that should all work on the iPad. Jaadu is the best one as far as I'm concerned. Runs for $20. Not sure how great editing will be, but you can definitely see what's going on remotely.

Honestly though, I'm excited to use Pro Remote on it, because the large screen real estate would make using it as a portable/remote control surface far more viable.

Not to sound like a total lamen on these things but has N E 1 tried using remote desktop to edit from a more comfortable position? I've never invested in a copy but the online demos show it working a a good speed.

I mean we have 540Mb wifi and provided that its just your workstation and your remote machine on the network I would imagine it feasible????

i was thinking this exact same thing today. Found out about the proremote but then was hugely dissapointed it was mac only so far. I thought about the ipad, and then larger touch screens? dont know anything about them but rather than buying the C|24 couldnt you get a widescreen touchscreen 32" manipulating the mix window, including plugins etc?
But id need this to work with windows? mac is ass.
oooooooo FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!

I think an Ipad would be a great tool if you could use it in such a way that the musician can easily, and comfortably look at the screen that the engineer is working on.....anywhere in the studio. Can one add the Ipad as a secondary monitor? Theoretically, that seems impossible. What about set it up to mirror the main monitor? (I think that was already mentioned) How could the communication from a G5 to an iPad be achieved without the the use of DVI cables? The only way a mac detects a monitor is physical output from the video card right?

There is already an app for the iPhone doing that. And all iPhone apps are iPad compatible. Besides, I dont think it will take long for the creator to port the PT mix control app to run natively on the iPad.
