It's a bit disapointing considering the length of wait, I'm guessing that the promised '3Ghz by Summer' is going to have to slip. At least the 2Ghz machine is a bit cheaper with an updated graphics card.

...and the 2.5 gig config (off the shelf) that comes with the ATI Radeon 9800 XT will not be good for any of us with 3 PCI cards:

So today's speed bump forces a BTO with the NVIDIA card.

Not nearly as dramatic as I was hoping for.

The 2.5 G5 comes with a 9600XT the BTO option is a 9800XT which would take up space in the path of that one PCI card. The standard stock 2.5 G5 WILL hold 3 PCI cards.

I think this would be a good time for an Accel Core card!!!

I wonder if the Dual 2.5Ghz will have any issues with the the HD and HD Accel cards. This is the only unit which offers "liquid cooling" of the dual processors. Could this make other areas inside hotter in the process??? i.e.: the PCI slot area?? Hope not.....

Does anyone know if there are any changes between the new "bottom-end" Dual 1.8 machine and yesterday's "mid-level" Dual 1.8?

In the past Apple has sometimes recast it's lineup such that the onetime mid-level machine becomes the new bottom-end machine, BUT... with reduced capabilities or architecture(smaller L3 cache, etc.) In other words, although it shares the same processor speed, the new Dual 1.8 Ghz machine might be less powerful than the older mid-level version.

Does anyone know if that's the case with the new machines?

thanks all
