Any news when Pro Tools will get updated to be qualified for Mac OS Sonoma?

It's actually not very good. I've heard the "excuses" from Avid.

However, I just got a new MacBook Pro to replace an old one. M3. Ships with sonoma, there's no way to downgrade it.

Basically, Avid being so behind means their software doesn't work very well on a brand new machine. They need to get it sorted asap I think. No good sticking to these quarterly updates.

What to do?

I'm not defending Avid here, but for various reasons they have driven one quarterly release (which is good because it is predictable) and if Apple release coincidents badly the compatibility update may be closer to half a year in waiting. Best case scenario within weeks.

Now I don't really know, but in this case (coincidents badly) Avid may certify 2023.12 later if it is good with Sonoma.

It's how it works with Avid. They have too much legacy kit and drivers and software to do it any faster. If you want something more lightweight and responsive to change, use Reaper, or Studio One, or Logic, or any number of packages.
It is how it is. This isn't something new. No amount of complaining, or saying what Avid should do, will help.
If you need to run Avid products professionally and you need a "new" Apple machine, buy something used that comes with a qualified OS. It's that simple. Or buy a PC. The tools are there to do the job. Buy the tool that does the job.

That has historically been the update timing. Apple major OS update in October, PT xxxx.3 release 5-6 months later.

Acceptable - no. Expected - yes.

Very angry today. I restarted my 2019 Macbook (macOS Monterey) just to get a good reset for the day. When it was booting, it seemed to hang. So I booted into Recovery Mode and ran First Aid just to be sure. Restarted and same thing. So I unplugged everything and did the same thing. I did a manual Shut Down instead of a Restart.

Now, I have purposely avoided upgrading the OS, and I had automatic updates OFF. But when the startup was still lagging...I let it go. When it finally came up, I now had Sonoma. Now, if I was wise, I would have had Time Machine setup and just reverted back, but it wasn't until recently that I got a dedicated drive for that and hadn't set it up yet.

So here I am...with Sonoma, by force, dealing with weird/slow UI issues. My only options are wait for AVID, or erase my drive, put all my data back on and install ALL my software again...and I'm not doing all that.

This problem is all over the web now. No comment from Apple. Clearly a serious issue for some users - I suspect it's a mistake by Apple, ignoring the user settings / choices and forcing an upgrade. It's not universal but it is widespread.
Same thing happened with Windows 7 to 10 upgrade. Not good.

I'm still on Monterey with auto updates off when I saw a box pop up top right saying something like update on restart. I got rid of it with the cross and checked settings. Fortunately I was at the computer and will now turn the Mac off when I am not there.

I never update to an unsupported by Pro Tools OS, as I need to work. Hopefully there will be a patch to correct this.
