Default Please confirm 8.0.4 Compatible w/i7 Macbook Pro

Hey all ... Last I was around here, it ended up with me returning Pro Tools 8.0.3 because of some gnarly issues - kernel panics, PT 8 constantly getting hung up, etc - that wouldn't go away. It became apparent the software wasn't ready for those new chips.

So! I did a little search and it seems as if 8.0.4 has cleared up these issues and I should be good to go. I just wanted to see if anyone wouldn't mind confirming this. I have a 15" Macbook Pro i7 with a USB MBox 2.

Thanks!

I can't confirm it, but I'm with you looking for some confirmation as well. I'm about to make the switch and buy my first MacBook Pro, and Mbox 2 or Pro in a few weeks.

Ha, with 30+ views you'd think someone had the inside scoop. The PDF for the release suggests it's been fixed, but I'm still not sure. I can't remember exactly all the problems I had, mainly those kernel panics and basic inability for the software to perform in any way.

Anyhoo. Come on, someone must have a similar set up!

I can confirm that 8.04 has major problems with mute and solo.

If you NEVER use mute and solo then go for 8.0.4.

But if mute and solo are vital for the way you work then 8.0.4 is an absolute joke.

8.0.4 resolves any outstanding issues with i5/i7 model Macs and we're looking into the solo/mute problems - keep in mind that not everyone is experiencing them. I know that's not terribly comforting, but our entire internal and beta teams didn't see the issue during testing, fwiw.

Yes! I can confirm. The only diff is that I'm using a 002, you're using M-Box.

I have the latest 17" MBP, Core i7, running OSX 10.6.3 with PT LE 8.0.4. It's working well.

In case it helps: Being concerned about having only a single FW800 port, prior to getting the MBP I spent a lot of time on the DUC and did my homework. Although I never had to daisy chain my interface and drives before, I tested it out with my old Powerbook G4 and made sure that the daisy chain would work. I did it just as described, going FW800 from the laptop to the drives and, last in the chain, FW400 to my 002 interface. It worked fine. So I went and bought the new laptop.

However the same daisy chain did not work with the new MBP. I spent a couple of afternoons with digi tech support, explored all the possible reasons why it wasn't working, upgraded the OS, swapped the external drives - Glyph and OWC - and nothing worked. What finally made the difference was to put the 002 in direct contact with the MBP: FW 800 to 400 adapter cable direct from MBP to 002.

I then purchased a Sonnet Tango Express Card from OWC which gives me 2 more FW 800 ports. One port is dedicated to Audio Drive (and it's backup). The other FW port is dedicated to Sample Drive (and a Master Backup for the system drive). It's working well.

I spent another week dealing with upgrade/license-authorization/compatibility issues for all my other music software and plug-ins. All together it took almost 2 weeks to get everything updated and configured but I can now say that it was definitely worth it. My DAW is working and I've successfully moved out of "Geek mode" and back into "Artist mode"! Having fun.

Good luck!

I purchased my 17" i7 and upgraded to PT LE and have had no issues. I do connect from the FW800 on the MBP to the 002 and then from the 002 to the hard drive. No issues yet!

Ok, thanks. Sounds like the coast is relatively clear. My only question, if anyone knows, is how a software update solves the problems with the USB MBox 2, specifically. Because I had issues even when I used it without PT running.

I should note again that some of the problems seemed to stem from the USB aspect of the set up.
