Separating noncontiguous selections
Hi all,
Wasn't quite sure how to title this. Let's say track A has many short regions, separated by silence, and track B has one long region. I want to split track B so that it has the same region boundaries as track A (with silence in between). Is there an efficient way to do this? I used a gate on B, triggered by A but I'd like another (region/selection-based) approach. Related question; let's say I have one long track and for every bar, I want to separate beat two and move it to a separate track. Is there a way to automate this for every measure? Thanks so much for any help! |

Re: Separating noncontiguous selections
Can't help with part B of your post, but maybe on part A. Using the tab function, place the first track directly above the track you want to chop up in the edit window. Tab to the end of a region, then move the cursor down with the : key and hit B to cut. Hit the P key to move the cursor back up to the guide track and repeat. After you place all the cuts, just highlight and delete the bits you want removed

Re: Separating noncontiguous selections
Create a copy of track B and place it between A and B. Switch the grabber tool to object mode and select all of the regions on track A. Drag the selected regions down to track B copy and then drag them back to A. You now have regions on track B copy that reflect the empty space on track A. Now select all of the regions on track B copy and drag them down to track B, then back again. Track B will now have regions exactly like track A and you can delete track B copy.

Re: Separating noncontiguous selections
Albee, thanks but I'm lazy James, brilliant! I thought about object grabber but couldn't work it out. Would still love help on my second question but this already saves me lots of time.

Re: Separating noncontiguous selections
You can do the same thing to solve your B question. Of course, this would require yo to be in grid mode. Make a copy of the track you want to break beat 2 out of and make another track to setup the template. On the template track, select beat 2 in grid mode and consolidate. Now select all of bar 1 and duplicate as many times as necessary to get through the song. Last, do exactly as I have previously explained to the beat track and copy and then delete the template track.

Re: Separating noncontiguous selections
Thanks again James, I initially didn't think of that because the tempo isn't constant but Elastic Audio should take care of that.
