As far as I know, all internal processing is done at 32 bit floating point. I am curious why it matters?

Well, for example if the audio suite gain is actuly a 24 bit algorythm and I gain down -24 db then I am actuly choping bits off the audio file. This is not good. Further if I gain up and down several times this could cause serious fedlity loss. The thing is I dont know how PT handles these operations, therfore I am asking.

Also because it is considerd a plugin. I dont know if thas is part of the mix engine.

Regards

Are you asking about audiosuite or real time audio suite (rtas). I suspect the rtas plugin is 32 bit floating point so that no conversion b/w stream type has to be performed at the plugin's i/o...however, seeing as an audiosuite plugin performs it's processing directly on a fixed 16 or 24 bit file, i imagine the easiest way to impliment the gain audio suite algorithm would be to have a 24 bit fixed i/o. I can't say for sure, you'd have to contact digidesign product info, and let them consult the programmers to get a "for certain" answer.

My 2 cents worth here. The only reason to use a gain plugin is if you want to raise or lower an entire track a little bit when you have lots of automation already written. The mix does not affect the use of bits(that happens in the recording stage). Maybe if you explain what you are trying to do, we can give you better options.
