Default Digi002 & Alesis HD24 Transfers

I'm currently using two Alesis HD24's and am considering PTLE-002 Rack Mount Version for Windows.

I'm wanting to use Alesis on the front end and mix in PT's.
My question is about transfering into PT's.

I've done searches and found info on using the Ethernet connection and Light Pipe.
Most of my work is at least 32 tracks of audio and I'm wanting to transfer everything at once, but
realize this probably won't be possible.

Ethernet may be slow .... how slow (we're talking a private Studio, so that might not be a concern)??
Light Pipe looks like 8 tracks at a time. I'd like to use the most accurate way to line everything up.

What's the best and easiest way to accomplish transfers with this setup ????

We use the firewire thing that alesis sells, you just hook the drive caddy up to it, hook it to computer and transfer the files onto your storage drive, then import them into your session. Works way better than using the ftp option.

I've used the firewire "fireport" also and it worked great. I was thinking about this same thing today. With optical, I wonder if you could slave the hd24 to the 002 so that the 8track groups would line up perfectly.

Not to knock the Alesis, but I think your 002R front end is better quality. I've used the alesis, and I wasn't that impressed compared to the Mackie HDR converters whcih is what we use, but that's just my opinion. I'd recommend you do some A/B comparisions of your own to determine which sounds better.

The Alesis machine uses a proprietary file system, so you can't connect the external drive directly and import the files, you need to connect via their fireport to convert the files to .wav. the fireport would however seem to be the best option, allowing you to import the converted files to Protools and vice versa. the files are timestamped, so using spot mode when placing them will align them properly.
