automation question
How can I write volume automation to a track, but still be able to use the fader to adjust the overall volume level, without rewriting it for the whole song. I've done it before by writing the automation to a gain setting on a plug before, then using the channel fader for level tweaks, but is there a different way?
Thanks, Jeremy |

Re: automation question
you can write the automation either with your pencil or by using the AUTO WRITE function, after which, if you dont want to hear the automation, click the AUTO OFF, and it wont read it.

Re: automation question
yeah, but I mean keep the automation, bc I'm happy with where it goes up and down, but use the fader to pull it all up or down in while leaving the relative automation in place.

Re: automation question
Automation TRIM mode via the fader is a TDM only feature.. you have to use the Trim Tool in LE or create a master Buss fader to accomplish the same functionality in LE.

Re: automation question
I guess routing it through an aux and would work also.

Re: automation question
there is a trim plugin. you insert it and adjust from -infinity to +6 (or maybe +12 with PT6.4 - haven't checked it out yet). trim is a mono only plugin, so if you want to use it on a stereo track, remember to select it from the multi-mono menu.

Re: automation question
the equivalent of trim mode automation would be to route the signal through an aux and automate the aux after automating the initial track...
an easy solution to what you're asking, would be to simply place a plugin with some gain boost at an insert point. Using the trimmer, if automation has been written already, can leave the ends of the selection at their previous levels, so it wouldn't necessarily boost or cut the level across the entire track...you'd need to select beyond the first and last automation points in the track for it to work properly.
