Re: Best Laptops for PTLE
My 1.4Ghz running great at any buffer and sometimes feels faster than the desktop Pentuim 4 2.4Ghz...
Eversince I've switched to 512MB Ram I have no complaints. 6.1.1 running smooth (with the 'standard' bugs...) with all sort of Hardware... MBox, 002, 002R... I just come, plug the hardware at the place I am and that's it.

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE
Hi Allen I was wondering what your opion was on Centrino vs P4? I'm asking because I can still send back the Dell 8600. I am going to at least send it back and change the 1.3 to a 1.7 Centrino. But if you think that the P4's are better than the Centrino's,then I'll change the centrino for a P4.As alway's thanks in advance

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE
Did you try turning DMA mode on the hard drives?
What about disabling the Wi-Fi in the device manager? I have seen both suggestions inthe Answerbase. Good Luck Quote:

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE
Hi guys,
In the Netherlands we have this B-brand on laptops called Jewel. In the Centrino department, Jewel Jade 8070, they have a lappy that comes with a 60 gb 7200 rpm 8mb cache internal HD. Looks interesting don't ya think. With this HD the Centrino Pentium 1.4 goes for E 1568.- the 1.6 ghz is E 1783.- ex vat. You can have a look at it on this site, I'm not connected to this store or this brand... They deliver to some euro countries. Jewel Jade 8070 Greets, Pieter |

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE
Meterbridge,
I had the WiFi disabled and DMA was enabled on all drives. I'm pretty sure I even disabled the cd-rom and dvd-burner. This week I am going to be able to fool with it some more so I'll try to let you know what I find. Jeremy |

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE
Hi all, I justed wanted to post my DaveC results since this thread help me determine what system to buy for my Mbox!
Today I bought the Gateway 200 Laptop with the Centrino 1.5 Processor and performed the Davec getting 32 audio tracks and 13 aux tracks using a LaCie 80gig external Firewire drive at 7200rpm with a Mbox. Before this laptop I had the Dell inspiron 5100 which I couldnt get to work with the 002 or the Mbox! I also had a powerbook 867mhz which I did not perform the davec but seemed to be very sluggish. I also have a Tascam FW 1884 which I plan on using as a controller for Protools. Does anybody have any advice on using the spidf out on the FW1884 to the spidf in on the Mbox to take advantage of the preamps on the tascam. Thanks to all who have taken the time to help others on the DUC, it is definitely appreciated...Rick |

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE
well.... seeing as i switched to mac because i really liked the feel of OS X.. here's my powerbook 12 "867 results.
40 gig internal 4200rpm, 640MB ram. Mbox. 85% and 1024 buffer. 16 tracks before disk too slow error. I could get 18 tracks up but then I would get USB is holding off error. 19 tracks would redline the cpu. It's way better performance than my P3 1Ghz could get (which was 12 or 13 tracks). It's more than enough for my current needs. In PC laptops i was impressed by the functionality of the new ACER laptops. reversible screens, built in Wi-Fi, touchscreen.. etc etc. cute. |

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE
Thanks for your responce Allen,I really appreaciate all your help. And now I have some new concerns.I installed (from the internet )the Sandra Sisoft program and its telling me that my Dell 8600 Centrino 1.3 ( by the way I am at least going to send it back and have it changed to a 1.7 and because there are only 2 slots for memory and they put in 2 256,s I'm going to have them change that to 1 512 so I can always add more memory.I think that I can only go as high as 1024)anyway the Sandra program is telling me that the 8600 is being over clocked and the FSB is being over clocked and that I need to ask the builder of the laptop why. So I contacted DELL and they said I had to install there diognostic program and when I did it runs a bunch of tests and all of them say that they pass. Now I think that this seems a little fishy to because the DELL tests really dont give you any specific info on the actuall speed of the procceser or the FSB.Do you think I need to be concerned.Another thing for anyone interrested, when I purchased the 8600 it came with a free upgrade from a 40 to a 60 gig hard drive and they have 7200 RPM 60 gig hard drives so I had them install one ,but I cant seem to conferm the actuall speed of the hard drive. Thanks in advance and I hope this responce isn't to long
