Does it sound better in AES than adat (maybe jitter and stuff in adat ?)
I use two Octopres but in analog (with I/O96 and ad8000 converters).
Both Octopres are fitted with the the optional Aes/Adat board though, but I found what I heard using those, too "dry" sounding for my liking.

You can connect two octopres (totalling 16 channels) to one 192 which is a 16-channel interface. Only that if you don't have the a/d option installed you have to connect (at least) one octopre via digital. If you have two octopres and two 192's, then you can connect both preamps via analog if you want to.

I have one 192 with a/d option. I connect two octopres via analog and it sounds as good as it is. I hate the clocking mess so I prefer analog connections which are more straight-forward. And IMO 192 a/d conversion is miles ahead of the octopre a/d board. Not necessarily so with the focusrite blue series (428 and 828) which I haven't yet had a chance to test.
