Default Upgrading 7.3 to 7.4 - now PT can\'t see D-command

Hi

Recently I upgraded from 7.3cs5 to 7.4.

It wasn't too succesfull. The whole story is here...

http://duc.digidesign.com/showflat.p...rt=&PHPSESSID=

7.4 is running, but it won't see my D-command.

Anyone experienced anything like this?

I'm on a Mac OS 10.4.10 with a dual ppc 2.5ghz - 8gb of ram.

starting to sound to me that instead of troubleshooting what imvho is a system with a serious flue .... backup what you need to backup an reinstall the entire computer from scratch. It will be faster .... and if one thing .. it will cure it and give you a happy system again.

Grasp the opportunity to check all your plugins for th very latest version ....

stick to 10.4.9 if you can ... I see way less trouble with that OS.

Hey

Maybe your right.

I have tried to install the OS combo 10.4.10. That is installing the system again, isn't it, or do I have to wipe the system folder off the harddrive and install from CD rom for it to be 100% fresh?

You've probably already checked this but on systems with 2 ethernet ports one is "e0" and one is "e1". I know you said you tried to enable. Have you checked under both ports?

I got it going by unplugging my either net cable from my computer, and plugging back in. Console came right up and wanted to update firmware. I hope this helps.

Hi, Im also having the same probs but not from upgrading PT just from installing new software ie. Toast.

This is an email from Digi Support so I've done the following

1. Check, "System Environment" Ethernet connection
There are two ether ports on Mac Pro,to make sure which port is working and connected physically.
For software setup, from ProTools application menu

Setup>peripherals>Ethernet controller

And make sure I've got correct port setup for En0vsEn1.

2.Have tried to change physical Ethernet connection ie Hub,Cable.

3.Trashed preference files of PT? Refered to this link.

http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...0&itemid=25770

4.Made sure the controller personality profile and its folder has proper permission to
my account

5.Repaired permission from Apple Disk Utilities Apps

6.clear PRAM

Resetting the Power Manager and PRAM

Resetting the parameter RAM (PRAM) when the computer is shut down also resets the Power
Manager. The following process resets both the Power Manager and the parameter RAM.

If the computer is on, turn it off.
Make sure the Caps Lock key is not down.
Restart the computer. Immediately after hearing the startup sound, simultaneously press
and hold Command-Option-P-R. (If you do not hold down the key combination within 5 to
10 seconds after the computer restarts, you must repeat steps 1-3.)
Hold down the keys until you hear the startup sound again. Then release the keys.
If the computer shuts itself off, press the reset button on the back of the computer to
turn it back on.
When the computer has finished starting up, restore any custom settings.

7. Reset D-command and run ethernet tests through utilities menu.

8. Uninstalled the software I loaded as well as uninstall and reinstall Pro Tools.

It all started when I installed Toast, Stuff it and Mac The Ripper software.

The gear was installed about 3wks ago and has been working fine.
(Pro Tools HD3, 24 fader D-Command Bundle and the 2.8Mhz 8 core Mac Pro running Leopard 10.5.1...6G RAM + 32OG SEAGATE BOOT DRIVE + 500G SEAGATE AUDIO DRIVE)

At present the system will work fine through computer keyboard and audio still meters on LEDs in master section of console, but D-command does nothing.

When entering Setup/periferals/Ethernet Controllers... and press enable. It reads the main unit and the fader unit. It allows you to put then in the colored boxes then when you press OK the msg comes up 'unable to load personality controller D-Cmd-M' which is the name i have given to the main module.

Please help if you can thing are getting dyer.

Cheers
PETE

I don't know if this works in every case, but...

I just upgraded 4 systems this morning from 7.3.1cs6 to 7.4 and eventually 7.4cs4. One of my systems couldn't "see" the D-Command. After a few reboots and still no console, I turned off all the D-Command's connected to that system. I then used the Delete Pro Tools prefs and databases program to trash all prefs, volumes and databases, emptied trash and did a reboot. I turned the D-Commands back on and started up PT and it then saw the console and was able to update the firmware.

Hope this helps.

This was with PT HD, Mac OS 10.4.9 Dual 2.5Ghz.
