BNC Routing Switcher
Dear Digiguys, we would like to be able to switch two different stage racks to two Venues.
We are thinking of using a 8x8 AES/EBU routing Swithcer, its specs are BNC style connectors with 75omhs. We could also use a 8x8 SDI video routing switcher with BNC style connectors with 75omhs. This is for a Broadcast setup, the idea is to have different studios connected to different Venues, and to be able to switch among them anytime needed. Could you guys suggest what is the best option, both Switchers have a BNC 75omh connector, but there are differences in terms of their bandwith... being the SDI video switcher the one with the highest bandwith. Thansk for your help. Regards, |

Re: BNC Routing Switcher
Hi,
Caveat: we have not tested any arrangement using switchers so we can't give any kind of endorsement that it will work. The best I can do is provide some technical details to help steer you along to further exploration. The snake signal requires in excess of 100 MHz bandwidth, so this rules out an AES switcher. An SDI or HDI switcher has the bandwidth, but this alone won't guarantee success. (Even though it has similar bandwidth the snake signal will not be recognized as any form video signal). Most importantly, a PASSIVE switcher should be used. Any device that re-clocks or processes the signal passing through it in any way will not work. One device that appears to fit the bill is the Laird ER4HD. Again, we haven't tested this switcher (or any other) so there's no guarantee it will work. If possible, try to get a demo unit to test with before buying. Let us know how it works out! Sheldon |
