Default Best record drive setup with trash can Macs

OK, upgrading studio to Mac Pro 3.5 6-core, Pro Tools 12.6 with HDX card. What's everybody with similar setups using for record drives? SSD? sata? Thunderbolt docks? Drives on PCIe cards? Any advice from experience would be most helpful. thx

I don't think there is a 'best' drive setup. Lots of options out there. I have two 4TB thunderbolt G-drives. They've never given me any trouble. Just get something big and fast.

First (best?) option is to record to the internal very fast PCIe SSD. Why can't you do that? Maxing out the size of the internal SSD is likely money well spent even at Apple prices, especially compared to not having any fast/modern external disk connectivity... not as fast as the internal PCIe SSD.

OS , and Pro tools installed on Macintosh Drive (built in PCie)

Dedicated Write drive for Pro Tools = 1 terabyte Thunderbolt 2 Lacie Little Big Disc (external PCie)

note; - I always keep the Lacie-LBD half empty to allow for new/importing projects , and constantly migrate current / completed projects off to various 2.5" backup drives loaded into my thunderbolt 2 Blackmagic Multidock. I choose do the backups manually.

I have a Dedicated storage drive for V.I Libraries - ie; Samsung 850 Pro External SSD (for quicker loading times)

.., I also have various USB 3 external drives for storage and backups etc .

This is likely overkill , as Optimising Notes from AVID all suggest: you need at a minimum for writing pro tools is a 7500 rpm HD..., and none of this seems to reduce the 9173 errors from pro tools

..., just use the Macintosh HD for your operating system and for running programs (like pro Tools)
