Default Some help and Info about Carbon - analog Inputs

Hi,
I am looking for Pro Tools Carbon,

can I use the 16 analog inputs at the same time(db25 plus the 8 XLR with the mic Pre)?

It is simple and straight forward the setup as any other Avid interface?

how stable it is?

The box has 8 analog inputs total labeled 1-8 and line inputs duplicated across the DB25 and TRS. The mic preamps use the same line inputs, so no it cannot do 16 analog inputs.

Is it simple to use???? Define simple. And I would argue that many Avid audio boxes are not simple to use, especially adding in monitoring etc. It’s complex in it is going to take more understanding of the DSP processing support. Arguably less complex than other brands if using separate hardware monitoring mixers. But this is an unanswerable question. Why don’t you look at the Carbon launch videos or better the documentation (pretty easy to skim through) and decide for yourself.

If you want HDX/DSP style monitoring this is likely a great box. If you don’t care about that it is a much less obvious choice. And the AVB IO is well, just a strange product decision, cutting off older Macs and all Windows PCs…

Lots of existing threads about Carbon, issues, limitations, workarounds, fixes etc. you can find on DUC.

As for inputs, you can add 8 with a suitable lightpipe preamp for 88.2/96K or 16 for 44.1/48K. Dozens of options for the 44.1/48K scenario(not sure who makes SMUX-equipped lightpipe preamps)

You can use an analog to ADAT converter. This way you'll have access to 24 analog ins with 16 of them via Carbon's ADAT input. Here's the cheapest (good) one I found on Sweetwater https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...adat-converter

I also have some suggestions, but before I toss them out, I'd like to know what the OP may already have for external mic pre's
