002 or 001 better for Pro Studio start.......
Which would you get? And Why???
"I'm very undecided;" and do I have to find a 1gig dual Quicksilver to really have the fastest performance???

Re: 002 or 001 better for Pro Studio start.......
you can get a digi001 and an octopre for less than the cost of a digi002. 8 great preamps going in via lightpipe. 2 decent preamps on the digi001. 6 more analog inputs plus s/pdif. do you really need the control surface of the digi002 that badly? it's definitely not the most bang for your buck.

If you are starting out from nothing, the bundled plug-ins that come with 002 is something to consider.

I agree with secondspassed's logic. For the money, the 001 and Octapre with a control surface is the best bang for the buck.
Hope this is helpful. |

Re: 002 or 001 better for Pro Studio start.......
Get the 002!!!! The 001 is good, but it's 3 YEARS OLD!!!!! The 002 is one of Digi's newest babies!! I use a G4/400 with my 002 and I'm making MONEY!!! You don't need a dual gig....it would be schwweeeet though !
002's are going for around$1999.00 these days, the Octopre's around a grand without the $295.00 card you'll need. Which ever way you go...it'll be PRO TOOLS!!!!

Re: 002 or 001 better for Pro Studio start.......
Forget the 002 pres and forget the octapre preamps. They're both gibberish. If you're recording straight up bands w/ full drums then they may be the smart option but if your just recording 2 tracks at a time, then go w/ 001$650, good a/d converter rosetta $700used, and a nice preamp (even the fmr audio rnp is a step up from the 001/002 pres for $475. I promise you'll be way happier w/ the sound you get.
But like I said, if you need to just start recording bands go w/ the lots of pre's for cheap. When I started my studio I was using the 001 w/ Alesis AI-3 A/D/A converter mostly for the 8 extra inputs via lightpipe, Mackie 16 channel mixer for pre's and plugins for effects.I made a ton of cash w/ just that basic set up a pair of 300$ vocal mics (for drum overheads/vocals and about 10 shure sm 57's. And as for the mac, I know I'm due for a new computer but I'm still using a G3 450 Mhz and I'm getting approx. 30 tracks. I would look into the 867 Mhz G4 (but be careful w/ the duals because I've read that they dont work w/ the 001.) As you record more and more bands you'll learn so much and you'll realize the sound you want is w/ in better gear. Slowly build and get good stuff instead of a bunch of mid level crap. I would stay away from the 002 and get a 001 w/ a control surface later. I started like I said w/ the 001, mackie 1604, Alesis AI-3 and in approx 3 years, I've graduated to 2 channels of Summit audio preamps, 2 channels of Apogee Trak2, 4 channels of Apogee rosetta a/d conversion, 4 channels of RNP channels, and so much other good crap! My point is record anything w/ a voice/talent/non talent and eventually get the good Shiz! Some people say that gear doesnt make that much of a difference, but it does! Anyhow, just my 2 cents |
