G4 450MHZ

I definitely scrape up better performance by increasing the buffer setting from 128 to 1024.

Otherwise, it's "out-of-cpu" errors.

G4/400; I run at 128 90% of the time. I also seem to get more plugins that way - no one's ever explained why.

Reason/reFuse doesn't like 128, though. I usually have to kick it up to 512 when I'm running both.

G4 Quicksilver 867, set at 256, except for tracking then it's 128. I just happen to leave it on 256 most of the time. Maybe I'll try keeping it at 128 more often to see how it reacts.

G4 400. Need the 1024 for running Soft Sample Cell in the background, but that's the only time.

G3 450...
No real difference in plugin's for me...However, my damn session wont bounce usually if I have a buffer of 128 or 256. I use to never have this problem w/ 5.0 anyway....Anyone else have the same problem

The higher buffer size helps with higher edit density. higher memory allocation helps with plug ins.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I've never tried adjusting the buffer when I get that dreaded "bounce handler can't keep up" message. I'll give it a whirl.

Changing buffer sizes REALLY messes with midi timing, which is why I always record midi to audio before the mix.

I always use 1024 for almost all the sessions.
Im not even sure why I would want to use anything else. Unless , of course, if the lower settings are actually getting better cpu performance.. Hmmm.
I dont think I care enough to try it out. My 867 onlu runs out of juice with about 5% of me sessions. And those are really fat 32 track monsters. A little file management or plugz reworking usually fixes the issue.
Sometimes a restart fixes it with out any other changes.
Ive notices that the ProTools plug usage seems to have a "memory". For example, IF you use a couple sans amps, then take them off, the meter is higher than when you started.
