Cool Where ch's 49-96 with 1 hdx card and 1 stg rack?

I'm using 1 stage rack with 48ch, and 1 hdx card. I have the system setup for 96ch for layering of channels. My problem is when I create a session from Venue Link I only see the 1st 48 inputs in Pro Tools and not anything from 49-96. My question is can I cheat this or do I have to change out my entire work flow? is there a work around?

Hi,

The connection between VENUE and Pro Tools is always 1:1 for channels 1-48 from a single stage rack system. These signals are taken immediately after the mic pre, before they are processed by channels on the console.

When recording to Pro Tools it's possible to also record up to 16 POST-processed signals, using the Direct Outs.

I'd like to learn more about what it is you're trying to achieve. Given that ch 49-96 are duplicates of inputs 1-48, what is the workflow where'd you'd want them to be recorded?

Sheldon

I could be wrong but I don't think the OP is doubling up channels, I think they are simply putting the channels in certain layers which inevitably required that he needed to tell the console that it is a 96 input system to do so.

That is how my monitor console is setup since I have the input side of the Venue main surface all bank safed.

Sheldon, after re-visiting the workflow I had some channels on the Dshow that are mono, doubled patched on purpose (gtr57L, gtr57R) and panned L and R. The gtr57R didn't show up in the pt session, so double patching the way I did it doesn't show up in a PT session. Also I have 16 external mic pre's at the FOH rack that I use for playback sources and Audience response mics into protools, that didn't show up because of me not soft patching them correctly ..... so it's good to go home first, get some rest come back and re-visit the issue before posting anything!! Thanks

Cool, thanks for clearing that up.

In the case of the double-patched inputs, these inputs will only appear as a single track in Pro Tools; the reason for this is that stage inputs 1-48 are always recorded top of channel (pre-processing), so there's no point in recording two copies of the exact same signal.

Plus, given that the physical input is double-patched in the patch bay the resulting single Pro Tools track will automatically play back to both channels for virtual soundcheck, so that's covered too. If you want a post-processed version of the double-ptached channels they can be routed to Pro Tools via the assignable outputs.

Sheldon
