PT 10.3.4 works fine on Air but Express won't..

Everything fine in the voiceover studio with the MBP

And all fine when I use my (studios oldstyle ilok and) PT 10.3.4 on my 10.8.5 MBA 13-inch, Late 2010

But now I have bought an Avid Fast Track solo (plus new style ilok) and Express PT 10.3.4…it got me to uninstall the full fat PT on the Air…but won't start apart from flash briefly on the splash screen…

I have used Protools Prefs Helper to trash the default set

But no joy

Any ideas?

if I remove the ilok and start PT Express it does at least tell me to put the ilok in…but still dies before even a single message on the first splash screen

I would start with these things...

1. Go to www.iLok.com
2. Download the latest iLok License Manager and install it. This will not only install the latest iLok License Manager application, it will also install the latest extensions needed for Pro Tools.
3. See the Known Issues link on the home page of iLok.com, and follow the instructions exactly for "Repair & Sync"

After that, check to make sure your Pro Tools Express license is showing as activated on the iLok you are using.

You also want to make sure you have installed the latest drivers for your Solo:
www.avid.com/drivers

And last, if none of that helps, redownload the Pro Tools Express installer from your account at http://account.avid.com under Your Products.

Thanks so much for your advice

1. I already had the latest ilok license manager
2. I did a Repair and Synch
3. I updated the Solo driver…THANKS!
4. PTE still doesn't start (even after trashing all the prefs in that PT Prefs utility)

So I am downloading PTE again, will uninstall and reinstall

On the uninstall I went for the nuclear uninstall option as this laptop has been used with loads of different hardware

Anyway it works and I'm very grateful

hmm well it works but I cannot get any sound out of it through the Solo headphone outputs

I think this is also a hangover from this laptop being used with lots of different i/O settings and machines

I'll keep fiddling

Open your i/o settings and click default this should bring it back to conform with your current interface.

I always make it a practice to save i/o setups for different interfaces and it is easy to import as well.

Thanks..yes the MBA now makes a sweet editing rig for the really long jobs, much easier to go back to bed with a cup of tea and scroll along the trackpad

And the FVO who shares the studio now has that option as well

Great stuff!

I don't much like needing to have the Solo with me as a dongle…and it also means I need to connect headphones rather than listen to the laptop speakers (or hang on, maybe I can fix that??)

But for the money it's a good expansion to my voiceover studio

And I can always crossgrade to 11 one day if I miss clip gain or need some more video power
