Default Does anybody use the Digi 003 & Full Production Toolkit??

I need a 2nd system and I'm wondering how large of a session does this really support and if it's actually a viable solution for me? Also does it have to be on a G5 desktop or will a new imac work? I'm looking to do things like consolidate 5.1 Stems (3-4 5.1 tracks), Press 5.1 to LTRT or Stereo, quick premixes etc....things of this nature as well as sound design larger sessions with backgrounds and fx etc. Please share your experiences

Thanks!

We did some stuff like that with M-Box and mac mini. Works fine and I think an Imac will do the job.

those things you mention will be fine on a dual G5, I've printed 40 tracks through muchos bussing to 6 x 5.1 stems in LE on a G5 before now.

If you do go Intel, watch out...you'll be pissed at how little power your HD system has! :) I'm mixing large 5.1 documentaries and small movies on octocore MacPro, with liberal usage of Speakerphone, TL Space, Waves UM226 and WNS. I could print way more tracks than i'll ever need through it.

Ya I am running that setup with a Nehalem 8 core. Its unreal. Im going to get a C|24 and leave HD for a while. No need. CPTK and LE is super rock solid. I do miss a lot of automation features though...

I'm lucky - I was brought up with Ye Olde Automationne back on Logic 2s and 3s, so I'm a latch & touch boy. I could really handle a Write To End button but I have workarounds for that, I ain't paying thousands for it.

well it's not very high-tech, but write-to-end is the sort of thing i'll use for mixing in an atmosphere that lasts a whole scene, so once i'm into the scene and happy with the level, I will zoom out on the timeline, hold the fader and click to a few seconds before the end of the scene, and write the automation there too. then i'll drop the volume lane and swipe between the start and end hit backspace to to erase the 0db portion in the middle, and there you go, scene's automation written for that track. Not elegant but it works.

Hi, I just wanted to bump this thread as I will be starting a project beginning to end on an 003. This projects requires 5.1 pre-mix so it looks like I need to upgrade the DV Toolkit 2 to Full Production Toolkit?

I'm a little bit nervous about this system, should I be? Anybody else out there using this?

Thanks!

AL.

What are you nervous about exactly, maybe we can help.

CPTK rocks my world. We are putting out 5.1 mixes comfortably on a regular with it.

I use it for 5.1 material. Also use Neyrinck for LtRts.

Everything is good for the most part. There are a couple annoying bugs and functionality issues:

1 - no delay compensation so be careful

2 - When sessions get pretty heavy (lots of tracks), I often get Segmentation Errors and/or Bus/Main Thread errors. Super annoying, and there doesn't seem to be a clear explanation on why this occurs.

3 - Not sure if this happens across all PT platforms, or just CPTK, but TL Space acts wonky sometimes, esp with snapshots. I had a session recently where PT kept giving a loud pop and then just no sound (Though my D/A shows clip). Only restarting would fix the problem and then it would happen again. I eventually figured out that it was TL Space bus causing the super loud pop and then no output. Had to make a new bus and hand copy all my TL space settings.
