Hey Denkrom.

Why don't you want to go SDD?

An ext. raid system will be limited by the firewire I/O, right? So with 750mb/s it doesn't seem to be a bottleneck...

Doesn't PT support ext. raid?

Best,
Boe

I second SSDs. I use OCZ 128GB Vertex for OS, 2nd 128GB Vertex for Sample streaming, and OWC RAID 0 enclosure for PT audio on a 8 core Mac Pro. Have had this config for over a year now with out any issues. Most responsive config I've ever put together.

SSDs are not time tested and very expensive per GB relative to say a WD Black or even a VR

Pro Tools does not support RAID internal or external.

I second the Raptor. Its great as a work drive for things in progress and forces me to backup/archive more often. Its instant when going into record or playing back, never chokes up, and Ive never had any problems with it. (knock wood)

Also, as a side note - I use Disk Warrior fairly often just to check the directory files and even when things are running fine, it always finds something that had a bad modification date or things like that. Rebuilding the directory with it often, seems to keep things smooth and problem free for me.
