BUS Speeds and Processor Power
The general concensus in the DUC certainly indicates the superiority of the AMD XP processors over the Intel P4 processors. The question is, what is the corrolation between the bus speed of the processor and the performance with DAW's. The Intel currently features a 400MHZ bus speed while the AMD XP is 266 FSB.
My current choice for my new machine would be an Asus a7v333 (333MHz bus speed) PC2700 DDR SDRAM (333MHz bus speed) but then I find the AMD Athlon XP running at 266MHz while the Intel runs at 400MHz. After consulting the AMD website, the comparism charts reflect the following; [QUOTE] www.amd. com Please educate me as to the reason for AMD's prowess. |

Re: BUS Speeds and Processor Power
The whole explanation would take forever to write and requires knowledge of digital circuitry but basically, all those clock speeds mean how "fast" information should be exchanged amongst the system's devices. Those have to be synchronized at a certain speed so they can work together.
Thus, faster clocks do not always mean quicker processing, there's also how many operations can be done in each cycle, how much information can be exchanged at once...etc etc I hope this helps a little... |
