Busses are used for routing signals within pro tools (or any studio environment, real or virtual). All of your questions give little details about the specifics of what you're asking. Basically a bus takes a signal from somewhere to somewhere else. For example, you might use a bus to send a signal from an audio track to an auxiliary input, perhaps to a reverb. You'd do this by clicking one of the sends on the audio track, selecting one of the busses, then creating an auxiliary input, inserting a reverb and setting the auxiliary tracks input to the same bus as you sent the signal on. You can control how much of the signal gets sent to the bus using the pop up fader which appears when you click on the send you created, or by viewing the send level on the audio track within the edit window.

I would suggest some further reading on basic sound engineering concepts before trying to get into pro tools.

There was a thread a few days ago about using the search button etc. I appreciate you may be a newbie, but all this info is easily obtainable in the manual and the method one dvd. Posting numerous one line questions is no way to endear yourself to everyone.
Still, I hope you were helped by the kindd people that replied.
