Default 7.4cs9 has caused hours of install pain

Hi guys,

Just a word of warning over the PT's LE 7.4cs9 update - my system was completely healthy, Pro Tools working fantastic, all plug-ins cool and other versions of applications carefully selected and healthy.

After I installed the 7.4cs9 update (from 7.4cs8!) Pro Tools wouldn't launch - I've uninstalled it and tried to go back to ver.7.0, but it won't install. I've deleted all plug-ins, Quick Time and many other apps, still, it won't install (or uninstall properly).

Basically after one little upgrade, I have spend hours banging my head against my laptop that has worked perfectly for months/years.

I'm going to have to do a system restore now, because the whole computer seems slow and unstable.

Just a word of warning if you have a healthy 7.4 version...

Phil

That is rather odd...I've installed the CS9 update on five computers now without any issues at all......

Any chance you slipped I.E.8 in there? It's been creating problems.

It is odd, I too (in the past) installed 7.4.9 on 3 computers in a matter of minutes, and thought it to be a very stable version. Did you accidentlly try to install HD 7.4.9?

OK, so it seems that IE 8 was the main issue, however after uninstalling that and Pro Tools several times, PT's still won't launch...

I'm getting an Initialization Error saying:

This software requires installation of device driver TPkd and a reboot before running. Please reboot or reinstall the software

I've uninstalled ALL Digidesign plug-ins, drivers etc. etc. and did a clean reinstall several times, and still I get this Initialization error with ver. 7.0, 7.1, 7.3, 7.4 & 7.4cs9.

This has been an absolute nightmare that I've wasted hours on. The Mac updated to ver 7.4cs9 in 1 minute and has been perfect since.....

Please anyone, can anyone offer any technical advice rather than I updated and have no problems etc. that really doesn't help me....

Thanks, Phil

So why are you using 7.4 when PT 8.0 is out and 1000X better?

This is a valid question. But maybe only ten times better.

Have you tried the uninstaller utility?

You need to reinstall (or Update) Pace Driver.

mano111 is correct. Reinstall the PACE drivers.

As a matter of interest, I recently updated my Waves RenMax bundle to the latest version (6r4) and started getting that same error message in all of my Sony apps (Vegas, ACID, Soundforge, etc.). PT still ran just fine. Updating the PACE drivers fixed the problem.
