Default Please publish the midi cc controls for pro tools 8!!!!

So, i'm using m-audio keystation pro 88, which has 9 faders, 24 knobs and 20+ buttons, and like a lot of people here i'm so confused about how to use our midi controllers (especially m-audio ones) to control pro tools 8.

In another thread i've seen that the tech said some controller functions are still not integrated into the current version of pro tools, so can you guys just publish the MIDI CCs for all the controller functions (pan, fader, transport and ANYTHING that could be controlled by MIDI CC) so we can at least manually map them and make a preset on our own????

IT would be so nice if you could do so, thanks!!

Continuous Controllers (CC) are part of the MIDI Specification and is considered a 'Standard' that manufacturers adhere too. Thus offering a universal communication.

That is your devices default settings are mapped accordingly. However 'Received' transmissions can be re-mapped according to a 'MIDI Learn' functionality with supported computer-based Instruments.

ahh, i think i'm saying that we need to know how to map the midi ccs to obtain control over pro tools. did you find a way to "midi learn" how to control the faders, pan and banking left and right?

what i've learnd so far is that if you choose "m-audio keyboard" as your type of MIDI controller in "Peripherals", MIDI CC 33-40, still didnt find Pan controls, some says its 17-24 but i tried they dont work. also for transport: Rewind, Forward, Stop, Play and Arm track are 114-118, that's all i know so far. it surprised me so much that my keyboard controller model is several years old and its m-audio but pro tools 8 still doesnt officially support it! i guess the "M-Audio Keyboard" selection in the peripherals is not for all m-audio controllers. hey, what's the scheme about???

You might be able to use the Pro 88 as a Control Surface with this template.

So this lisyt successfully gave me control of Pro Tools faders and Transport... which is nice...but what I *really* want to do is use the new Learn function in PT8 to control certain parameters in my plug-ins/instruments. And I can't for the life of me get anything to work this way!!! I click learn, then move a knob/fader and nothing. If I move any of the faders that I already programmed for a PT fader/transport, then that moves, but the learn still doesn't grab the controller movement.

Any insight as to how to make this work?

once you have set up the faders as above then you are half way there. The one that makes teh difference is cc 57.

I have an old oxygen 8 version 1 copy. (Crappy Carillion thing) that i use for my laptop.

YOu have to configure a button on you controllor to send cc 57 with value 127 - ie a full press.

Once pro tools receives this 57 flip cc commands and turns your faders into 8 knobs to control the plugs and then you can use learn command on the plugins. once the flips command is received the the faders stop working when you turn the knobs.

For example. I dont have a spare midi button on this keyboard to send this command automatically. But i can just send the cc data change using the keyboard as follows. Bearing in mind you will need to read your own controllors manual to find out how to do this.

Control Change data entry by numeric keypad: Oxygen 8 allows you to
use the numeric keys, instead of the data entry slider, to specify the Control
Change parameter data. This is done by pressing the MIDI/SELECT button, CC
(No. or Data) key, required number key(s), and the Enter key.As an example, to
assign a Control Change value of 57, and CC Data value of 127:
1. Press the MIDI/SELECT button.
2. Press the CC No. key.
3. Press the key labeled “57”.
4. Press the Enter key, in order to specify the Control Change as 57.
5. Press the CC Data key.
6. Press the number keys 1, 2 and 7, in order.
7. Press the Enter key, to specify the value 127, then press the MIDI/SELECT
button.This completes the process.
Program

to then change back to the mixer control i just repeat above.

IF you have buttons on you midi controller. set the button up to send cc57. then make sure its not on toggle mode. or if it is make sure is sends value 127 for both switches.

I am quite pleased with this as its my more portable set up so means i can have control of plugs and mixer with just a few button presses on the keyboard.

I too was having the same problem, Im very greatful that you guys have figured out most of the CC Numbers. My issue is with the knobs, I can assign them as the pan function, but the pan knob on screen does not move smoothly, a very slight turn using the knob on the keyboard will either set the pan hard left or right or middle, I cannot smoothly dail in the pan. Anyone else having this issue? What can I do?
