Re: Snow Leopard
This is NOT a recommendation - just a report on my experience. I have a 20" iMac 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo that was running 10.4.11. I installed Leopard 10.5.6 and PTLE 8, then the cs3 update. Everything up to that point worked as it had on my G5 2GHz iMac running Tiger and PTLE 7.4.2 - pretty trouble-free except fot hiccups in some multi-track high plug-in count sessions. Then I just installed SL over Leopard. Other than Reason 4 not showing up the plug-in folder, and some previously wrapped VST's no longer being wrappable (mostly Pluggos), everything else worked as before, though slightly faster in some cases. The Reason issue was rsolved with a trashing (of Reason) then re-installing, a couple of restarts, some cursing (never at Digi as they did warn me) some verbal self-abuse, then an angry shut-down. After I booted up the next day, "Voila!" Reason is now in the plug-in folder and all has been hunky dory ever since. Oh yeah, I have an mBox2 and have had none of the mBox-related issues that others have reported, but I know that this just falls into the exception/rule paradigm. Lastly the PTLE 8.0.1 update has not affected my performance, so I too am still dealing with the jerky playback cursor PITA

As to the other person who said ProTools will lose ground, I personally think that it's Apple who is losing potential high end customers. A lot of the high end studios here, still use OS9 and PPC It works for them, and they ain't changin! I had an experience last month of trying to help a fellow PT user with his system(his computer died). I had to apologize, and tell him I'll call him back when I can remember what I used to do when I WAS using OS9. Then it dawned on me, even though I got newer gear, he is still getting his job done on the older gear he is familiar with! If Apple made it easier to upgrade by working together with other companies, there would be a lot more people buying the new monster machines. But, sadly to say, our(music) day in the sun has passed. Now it seems they are targeting graphic designers etc..... I guess as a company, it's smart to go after the people who have the $$$$$ And spend the$$$$$$$$

Re: Snow Leopard
As I will be using Logic 9 for a while, I decided to upgrade to Snow Leopard and see what happens.
Turns out, PT8 runs without any problems at all on SL (even on the latest SL update) using my MBox 2 Mini. That's on a 2.4 MBP |

Re: Snow Leopard
are you running 8.0 or 8.0.1?
on 8.0 my issue was it would always crash the first time i opened it. on 8.0.1 that only issue seemed to be that cursor problem. |
