1-yes, as far as I know we have only 5 inserts available...should be enough.
2-no, I think the redraws behave the same way no matter what.

I always track synths-samplers and such by patching into a kickass DI (I have TAB-Funkenwerk DI's, Brent Averill Neve modules 1099's and 1272's w/DI inputs added) followed by the micpre's in such...

the only stuff I KNOW was vocaligned was the older R Kelly stuff.
They would load up 2 2" decks with BG vocals then dump to PT, Vocalign then spit back to tape, to be mixed onto the master reels.

there is NO magic formula.
You will need to learn this on your own.
No amount of EQ, Plugs, Panning, Number of tracks...that will get you there any quicker.
Get a job at a large studio that does...

if you were to record at a resonable level, you wouldn't have to deal with this.
