The Sound cDev is located in the "Apple Extras" folder. Note that this control panel does not work with OS8.6 (see my post on this topic)

Try downloading SCSIProbe 5.1 (should be able to find @ Macworld downloads.)
There is a checkbox within to automount @ boot.
I believe this should do the trick!
