Re: iMac performance question

I know the G5 iMacs ran loud, but my 20" Intel iMac has been quiet as a whisper since I bought it, and I've put it through rigorous processing tasks like encoding video, etc. The only time I ever...

Re: I need a Mac guy please!

It is essentially both. The G5 processor is in fact a lot faster than the G4, but only if you feed it plenty of RAM. Any Mac running OSX should have a minimum of 1 gig of RAM, and 2 is very nice.

Re: I\'m ready for Pro Tools 10 (7 blues)

I could be wrong, but I believe that if the RAM were at fault, it would be affecting other things as well, not just Pro Tools alone. If you had bad memory, the whole system would probably crash...

Re: SCSI Drives from a Mac to PC

I have no personal experience with this, but as long as there are Windows drivers for your SCSI card, everything should work just fine. Are you reformatting the drives with NTFS, or planning on...

Re: MacBook vs. Macbook Pro

One of the differences, aside from screen size, is that the MacBook Pros have a dedicated ATI x1600 video card, whereas the MacBooks use the integrated Intel GMA950 graphics with shared memory....

Re: Best Mac to use for LE

They are expecting to announce the Mac Pro's this August at the WWDC, so they'll probably be shipping in Sept. or Oct.

Recording to a firewire drive would be optimal. I don't know if this would...

Re: Best Mac to use for LE

You can connect an external monitor up to the iMac and the MacBook as well, the adapter is $20 from Apple.

I have a 20" Intel iMac and I just love it -- and I could swear that it is every bit as...

Re: PTLE on XP on MacMini?

Make sure you get a firewire drive or you'll be very disappointed :-)

Re: FAT 32, still need it, how to format from XP?

I would also like to add that there is a freeware program for Windows called SwissKnife (http://www.compuapps.com/download/Swissknife/swissknife.htm) that will partition and format FAT32 up to the 2...

Re: Boot Camp and RTAS Intel plugin versions

Boot Camp is simply a "boot loader" that lets you install and run XP on the Mac as if it were a normal PC. Everything will be pretty much exactly the same as if you were running XP on a standard PC....

Re: using windows formatted drive

That's not true anymore. Since version 6.0.8 this function has been enabled -- it now works as if HFS+ was a native filesystem:

Re: using windows formatted drive

NTFS is read-only on the Mac, and FAT32 is a really crappy filesystem.

If you are going to be doing a lot of work between a PC and a Mac, I very highly recommend getting a program for the PC...

Re: Waxtrax can you tell me what your setup

I could imagine that it would certainly help in a live situation, but I've never had the need to do anything like that.

Re: Waxtrax can you tell me what your setup

I've always done everything on a single machine, though I've heard of products that do MIDI over LAN (http://www.coyoterd.com/netmidi.htm) , I've never actually tried any of them. Pretty interesting...

Re: Waxtrax can you tell me what your setup

Are you asking if you can run the Intel Mac OS X on a Dell, or if you'd be able to share data between a PC and the Mac?

Re: Intel Mac Pro Tools Upgrade

There won't be a licensing issue because they are both being run individually from the same computer. However, the Mac version of Pro Tools won't even run on the MacBook until the Intel Mac version...

Re: Waxtrax can you tell me what your setup

I do mostly electronic-type stuff, usually not subgenre-specific. And I work almost exclusively with loops and samples, very little "actual" instruments are involved, with the exception of samples...

Re: Waxtrax can you tell me what your setup

If you go the Intel iMac route, one very strong suggestion I would make would be to get an external FireWire hard drive for your recordings, not USB. USB is great for general storage, but there is...

Re: Waxtrax can you tell me what your setup

Nope, I never got a chance to use PT on the iMac. But if I still had the system, I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work on it if I booted into Windows until the Intel Mac version of PT is...
