New heads do give a "brighter tone."

For Toms, I find that good quality drumheads (remo, evans, etc) hold their tone until they become excessively stretched (due to tuning over time) or beat up...

I run into CPU load problems with D-verb also.
The dither does help to a point.

If I have a 24 bit session and I dither the vocal and select 16 bit.
