Have you tried going to disk utility to the fix page and format? This took care of the problem for me.

Go to disk utility. Click on repair. At this point you are getting ready to format the drive. Format and then try starting a new project. I had this same problem when i first started.

i'm using a 12" 1.33 powerbook, with 768mb ram, digidesign mbox, and a 160gb lacie firewire hd. i've recorded 24 tracks in with no problem. well no problem after i figured out how to run plug-ins...
