Protools 002r / losing connection with hardware

Recently got Protools up and running - but I noticed that the hardware seems to keep disconnecting when I use the demo session "be there" (only one I've opened thus far) I get the firewire device...

I'm see-sawing between the latest Hitachi 7k250 (120gig 7200 8m sata) and the Maxtor diamond max plus 9. From what I have read online the 120gig Hitachi has better performance and costs around...
